This summer, British Airways will introduce four additional routes to cities in the United States, increasing direct flights to London.
According to British Airways, the airline began flying from London to Portland International Airport on June 3, becoming the city’s only direct flight from London.
“We’re very happy to be adding Portland to our roster of transatlantic destinations this summer,” Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ director of networks and alliances, said in a statement. “Not only are we the only airline offering direct flights from Portland to London, but this new route also provides our clients with a wide range of connections.”
A Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft will fly the new Portland route five times each week. With British Airways’ codeshare agreement with fellow OneWorld partner Alaska Airlines, travellers will be able to connect to cities across the United States.
British Airways reintroduced flights between Pittsburgh, Pa., and London on the same day, claiming to be the only direct flight between the two cities once more, according to the carrier.
On June 6, the airline added a new daytime flight from Newark Liberty International Airport to London Heathrow, expanding its flying options between the New York City area and London. This will be the carrier’s third daily trip from Newark to London, which will be added “to facilitate the return of business travel,” according to the company.
This summer, British Airways and its joint venture partner American Airlines will offer 15 daily departures from New York to London.
On June 13, daily direct flights from San Jose, California, to London will resume.
In March, the United Kingdom lifted all COVID-19-related travel restrictions, requiring no longer the completion of passenger locator forms or the presenting of proof of a negative COVID-19 test, regardless of vaccination status. However, all travellers entering the nation, including US citizens, must be tested within one day of their journey.
