Sunny Isles Beach, FL – In a jaw-dropping moment of courage and instinct, a Florida security guard became an overnight hero after diving into a canal to rescue a couple trapped inside a sinking Tesla.
The terrifying incident unfolded around 6:15 PM when the electric car sped through a security gate and flew straight into a nearby canal.
Panic gripped the area as the vehicle quickly began to submerge, with two people inside fighting to escape.
But then came Emmanuel Machado, a security guard stationed nearby. With no concern for his own safety, he ripped off his shirt and dove straight into the water. “I didn’t think of anything else,” Machado said, still breathless hours after the rescue.
Inside the car, the couple was desperately trying to open the doors. Machado shouted to them: “Put your window down!” As water flooded the vehicle, he managed to pull the woman out through the open window, saving her life just in time. The man was also rescued with help moments later.
Photos show the Tesla briefly floating before vanishing beneath the surface. A dive team arrived two hours later to retrieve the vehicle. Authorities are still investigating what caused the crash.
Thanks to Machado’s fast thinking and fearless action, the couple survived a near-certain tragedy.
