Unbelievable video footage captured the horrifying moment a small plane, desperately losing power, touched down right onto the busy lanes of I-95 in Brevard County!
A routine drive instantly turned into a nightmare scene straight out of a movie.
As the instructional flight, which originated out of Merritt Island, attempted its emergency landing, it slammed into an innocent vehicle—a Toyota Camry.
The driver, a 57-year-old Melbourne woman, was rushed to the hospital after the terrifying collision.
Eyewitnesses driving right behind the Camry described the immediate terror.
They initially thought the pilot was attempting a safe touchdown, but then, “BOOM, front tire just goes right onto the car that’s right in front of us,” they recounted.
The sudden impact was so scary that it forced the witnesses to quickly swerve out of the way just to survive the debris and chaos!
Why did this terrifying incident happen? Investigators confirmed the plane lost power in both of its engines, forcing the pilot to make a split-second, life-or-death decision to use the interstate as an airstrip.
Yet, despite the chaotic and violent collision, the Florida Highway Patrol confirmed an absolute miracle: no one was seriously hurt.
Most of the people involved walked away with only minor injuries. The 27-year-old pilot and passenger, incredibly, did not sustain any injuries at all!
Now, the FAA, FHP, and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are scrambling for answers.
The NTSB is scrutinizing the aircraft’s maintenance records, the flight track data, and the pilot’s license and ratings to understand this terrifying failure.
The full investigation is expected to take at least 30 days.
