Send this to that friend who plans the trip.
Instagram has long been a place filled with travel inspiration, but now, the app is taking things a step further with an update to its Notes feature.
As of Thursday, users can ask friends for travel recommendations and more via Notes Prompts, Meta, Instagram’s parent company, announced in a press release shared with Travel + Leisure.
“Today, we’re excited to launch Notes Prompts, which makes it easy for the Instagram community to ask friends for recommendations and connect over them,” Ashley Alexander, the head of product management at Instagram, said in a statement. “With summer travel season here, Notes Prompts are the perfect way to source ideas from friends on hotels, restaurants, and activities when planning a trip.”
How It Works
With the new Notes Prompts feature, travelers can gather a wide range of recommendations from friends and followers, from summer travel recs to specific advice like “favorite honeymoon spots” or “what to do in certain destinations.” Instagrammers can also use this feature to crowdsource recommendations on the best luggage, headphones, and other travel gear.
Additional Updates
- Notes Like: Users can now quickly react to friends’ notes with likes. To like a note, simply double-tap the note or click the heart icon.
- Notes @ Mentions: Tag friends directly in your notes to get more personalized recommendations or start a discussion.
These updates not only enhance the way travelers plan their trips but also foster engagement and connectivity among the Instagram community.
Fun Uses
- Start debates on hot travel topics with friends, such as:
- Is it ever okay to take your shoes off on a plane?
- How many pairs of underwear should you bring on vacation?
- Should you feel bad about reclining your seat on a plane?
With these new features, Instagram makes it easier than ever to tap into the collective knowledge of your social circle, ensuring your next trip is well-planned and filled with great experiences.
